Heat Exhaustion Treatment:
x Move worker to a safe, cool, ideally shaded area and encourage worker to rest.
The worker should drink water or electrolyte solution, such as Gatorade, or
other thirst quencher drinks.
x Severe cases in which a worker vomits or loses consciousness may require longer
treatment under medical supervision.
Heat Cramps:
x Painful spasms of the muscles by the body’s loss of salt.
Heat Cramps Treatment:
x Move the worker to a cool, safe, ideally shaded area.
x The worker should drink water or electrolyte solution, such as Gatorade, or
other thirst quencher drink.
x Seek medical attention for workers who experience severe cramping.
Fainting:
x Can occur when a Teammate is not properly acclimated to the hot working
environment.
Fainting Treatment:
o Encourage the worker to lie down on their back until they are able to walk to a
cool, safe, and/or or sheltered place to rest.
o Recovery is expected quickly, once they regain consciousness.
Heat Rash:
x Also known as “prickly heat” can be extensive and can be complicated by
infection. Heat rash can be so uncomfortable that sleep is disrupted.
x It can impede a worker’s performance and can even result in a temporary or
total disability.
Heat Rash Treatment:
x Place the worker in a cool, safe, and ideally shaded area and allow the skin to
dry.

required to work in situations where materials containing silica are used. We recognize
the fact that airborne silica can be produced from the abrasive blasting, bush hammering,
