Injury Illness Prevention Plan - Flipbook - Page 33
As referred to OSHA 29.1910.1030, potential routes of entry include contact with skin,
eyes, mucous membranes, or contact from piercing the skin. The best way to prevent a
teammate or any other individual from contracting a bloodborne pathogen is to eliminate
exposure to the loose blood and bodily fluid particles which may carry said pathogen.
There are also handwashing stations available at all jobsites for cleaning any
contaminated part of the body, along with functional restrooms at the office HQ.
TEAMWRKX Construction identifies the following methods as sufficient for preventing
exposure to sharp objects which can cause bloodborne pathogens to be released:
x Apply guards and caps to all tools not currently in use.
x Keep sharp objects in well-marked containers.
x Dispose of sharp objects in well-marked, rigid containers (such as cardboard).
x If disposing an object contaminated with bodily fluid, this object is to be placed
in a designated, red biohazard container.
If you or someone else is bleeding, do not allow anyone to contact said person without
sufficient protection in the form of gloves, clothing with minimal skin exposure, a
facemask, safety glasses, and close-toed shoes. These PPE items, along with any other
such PPE, is supplied by TEAMWRKX. After assisting someone who is/was bleeding,
always wash any part of the body that could have come in contact with said blood with
hot water and soap for 30 seconds with vigorous scrubbing, along with cleaning any
affected workspace or equipment with water and disinfectant soap.
Also, as TEAMWRKX teammates do not experience an occupational exposure to Hepatitis
B, they are not required to have the vaccine for this disease. If teammates do become or
risk becoming occupationally exposed to Hepatitis B, then the Hepatitis B Vaccine is
provided by TEAMWWRKX Construction to said teammate(s). Any and all documentation
involved teammates affected with a bloodborne pathogen is kept for the duration of the
teammate’s employment plus 30 years. Along with medical documentation, training
records are maintained for at least three (3) years at TEAMWRKX. Having a general
knowledge of first aid or having an OSHA30 certification – which is required at
TEAMWRKX Construction for any Field teammate and strongly encouraged for every
teammate – will help you better protect yourself, your teammates, your loved ones, and
the community from bloodborne pathogens, as well as other hazards. TEAMWRKX
actively encourages teammates to attend CPR and AED/First-Aid Courses where they are
provided training on bloodborne pathogens. Said courses provide training on bloodborne
pathogens by showing teammates that any and all bodily fluids can give rise to
bloodborne diseases/pathogens. Therefore, TEAMWRKX implements several universal
precautions for all materials possibly infectious:
x Always avoid coming in direct contact with possibly infectious material.
x All equipment and/or working surfaces must be promptly cleaned after contact
with blood or other infectious material.
