Second, if a cylinder cap cannot be removed, then the cylinder must be visibly
and legibly tagged “DO NOT USE” and returned to the vendor who brought the
cylinder for removal from the site.
Third, all gas cylinders must have regulators detailing the pressure, temperature,
and all other important elements of the gas contained within the cylinder. These
must be inspected for any grease, oil, dirt, solvents, or any other material that
could hamper a regulator’s accuracy.
If vendor teammates are to open gas cylinders, they are to open and close
cylinder valves with all proper tools needed to complete the task. Specifically,
these tools are provided by the vendor, not TEAMWRKX, as TEAMWRKX
teammates do not perform this function.
If a cylinder is leaking, the vendor must immediately move it to an isolated, wellventilated area away from ignition sources. Soapy water should be used to
detect leaks (the bubbles will show where gas is leaking out). If the leak is at the
junction of the cylinder valve and cylinder, the vendor should not try to repair
it. The supplier must be contacted, and response instructions will be provided.
Leaks can also occur on hoses and/or connection points of the cylinder – ensure
to visually inspect all hoses and connections prior to use.
Outside of using compressed gas cylinders, it is crucial to store them properly in well
ventilated areas. TEAMWRKX Construction, Inc. does not store compressed gas cylinders,
however when present on-site our field teammates should ensure that vendors
understand guidelines on how they are stored. Cylinders must be secured at all times to
avoid getting knocked over or damaged and stored in a vertical position; the storage area
needs to clearly label which cylinders are empty and which are full/partially full. Empty
cylinders must always be tagged that they are empty and placed in the labeled “empty”
area. Also, either 20 feet should be maintained between oxidizers and flammables, or
firewalls should be erected at least 5 feet high and with a fire rating of 30 minutes. They
must also be protected from damage, corrosion, sunlight, and kept away from heat
sources. Cylinders should always be capped when not in use, regardless if empty or full.
When no longer needed, cylinders should be marked “DO NOT USE”.
Lastly, when vendors transport compressed gas cylinders around the job site, it is their
duty and the duty of TEAMWRKX teammates to ensure that the gas cylinders are
transported in a vertical, secured position using a cylinder basket or cart.
13.05 CONFINED SPACE / PERMIT CONFINED SPACE
One of the most dangerous locations on any jobsite is a location where a confined space
or permit confined space exists. Confined spaces include, but are not limited to, tanks
vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, pits, manholes, tunnels, equipment housings,
ductwork, pipelines, etc. A confined space also has limited or restricted means for entry
or exist and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Furthermore, the smaller room
