or flammable hazards. Please see the Compressed Gas section of this
IIPP for more information.
Health Hazard: This symbol indicates the presence of a material that
is hazardous to one’s health, particularly the respiratory system.
Materials this symbol applies to include carcinogens, mutagenic
materials, materials that can be toxic to the reproductive system and
specific internal organs, respiratory sensitizers, and materials that are
toxic when inhaled.
Oxidizers: Oxidizing agents are substances that take electrons from
other materials that are close enough to make contact at the atomic
level. This electron transfer must be prevented because oxidizers can
increase the burning of fuels by increasing available oxygen. This
material can spontaneously start the fire or augment the burning of a
flammable object.
Explosive: This sign applies to materials that have the ability to burst
and fragment themselves into small pieces that can be hazardous due
to the speed with which the small pieces are traveling. Furthermore,
the explosive could hold something inside that is also toxic. It is
important to not only control what is around the explosive materials,
but to also maintain distance.
Skull & Crossbones (Acute Toxicity): This sign is used for acutely toxic
materials that can be fatal if incorrectly handled. These toxic materials
must be carefully stored and cannot be contacted without the proper
PPE equipped.
While TXC teammates must be aware of what these hazards are and how hazardous they
can be, it is not the teammate’s responsibility to label the items unless otherwise
certified. Instead, TXC teammates must ensure the SDS is readily available for anyone
who wants to review the documentation of a material and the TXC teammates must
ensure labels are present around such material, though TXC teammates do not place
them unless otherwise authorized, that would be an obligation for Subcontractors.
13.16 HYDRO-BLASTING
TEAMWRKX Construction, Inc. teammates do not perform any Hydro-blasting work,
however we should all be aware of the safety risks the operation poses to other vendors
on-site as well as the one performing the work. First, all vendors performing the hydroblasting work must have proof of training and permit (if demanded by local jurisdictions)
to perform the task, ensuring that they have the knowledge to safely perform the work.
Second, prior to conducting any work the vendor must inspect the high-pressure unit to
ensure the equipment is in proper working order. One important element is that all
nozzles must have an operating valve that must be held open manually; this element
