Injury Illness Prevention Plan - Flipbook - Page 57
this work is actually provided by others, and we have competent persons who supervise
their work.
x Rigging equipment shall always be inspected before use by a competent person.
x Proper lifting techniques shall be observed when manually handling any size,
shape, or weight of materials. A teammate should observe the following rules
to avoid potential musculoskeletal injuries (from manual lifting):
o First examine the materials to avoid any sharp edges, lifting in a manner
that something could spill or fall over, damage the materials, and the
weight of the materials to avoid overexerting oneself.
o Get down close to the load (bend your knees - don't stoop over).
o Keep a straight back.
o Lift gradually, using your legs, without twisting or jerking.
o Get help for heavy or awkward loads, usually two-man lifts are sufficient.
o Any injuries or incidents that occur during manual lifting will be
investigated like any other workplace incident (please see page 20 of this
IIPP).
x Motorized or special handling equipment shall be used to move heavy or bulky
objects.
x Teammates may also use dollies, hand-trucks, and other lifting devices for
manual lifting, with the following notes in mind:
o Every end control, reach, narrow aisle and motorized hand/rider truck
shall be equipped with an operator platform of sufficient size to contain
the operator's feet within its periphery and strong enough to withstand
a compression load equal to the weight of the loaded truck applied
longitudinally against a flat vertical surface.
o When installed, operator enclosures shall not restrict movement to and
from the operating position.
o Operator enclosures are not recommended on hand/rider trucks
because of interference with the steering handle and with rapid and
unobstructed egress.
x All teammates are trained in using any and all handling devices and are
encouraged to ask for help.
x TEAMWRKX Construction, Inc. contracts all rigging to our subcontractor
teammates, however TEAMWRKX superintendents will follow all crane lift and
rigging procedures, such as:
o Checking certifications from both the crane operator and the rigger.
o Ensuring the crane operator and rigger have current licenses.
o Ensuring the crane operator and rigger verify the inspection of the
rigging material for handling material prior to use on each shift and as
necessary during the time of use.
o Removing defective rigging equipment from service, and any rigging
equipment not in use will be removed from the work area.
o Inspecting the ground where rigging equipment is to be used.
