Revised: October 2023
Whenever feasible, atmospheric contamination will be prevented through
engineering controls. Such controls include:
o Enclosure or confinement of operation
o General and Local Exhaust Ventilation
o Substitution of Less Toxic Materials
Appropriate NIOSH-certified respirators are to be used if engineering controls
are not feasible; the safety and health of our teammates is our top priority.
TXC shall provide respirators that are applicable and suitable for the purpose
intended. We shall select and provide an appropriate respirator based on the
respiratory hazard(s) to which the teammate is exposed, along with workplace
and user factors that affect respirator performance and reliability.
The Chief Safety Officer is responsible for the administration and
implementation of the respiratory protection program and ensures the program
is maintained.
TEAMWRKX Construction will provide the respirators at no cost to the
teammate.
TXC will ensure that teammates using a tight-fitting facepiece respirator pass an
appropriate qualitative fit test (QLFT) or quantitative fit test (QNFT).
Respirators which have conditions that may expose teammates to unsafe
conditions are not to be used. Such conditions include:
o Facepiece seal leakage – Can occur as result of a tear or improper fitting
o Easily removable/loose respirators – Can be bumped out of position
o Short operation time due to a hole or small amounts of compressed air
In the event of a vapor/gas breakthrough, change in breathing resistance, or
leakage of the facepiece, the teammate must leave the area immediately and
have the issue addressed with their Safety Supervisor.
Any respirator which will be provided shall be clean, sanitary, and in good
working order. The Chief Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring these
conditions.
All filters, cartridges, and canisters used in the workplace must be legibly labeled
and color-coded with the NIOSH approval label that must not be removed.
Training and information will be provided to teammates who are required to use
respirators, or those who wish to learn about how to use respirators.
Written information regarding medical evaluations (must be completed prior to
a teammate using a respirator), fit-testing, and the respirator program shall be
retained for 30 years after employment.
Any respirator used will be selected for use in accordance with Cal/OSHA or ANSI
Z88.2-1980 standards, and the specific respirator will be specified for each job.
The teammate will be informed of the decision and be trained how to operate
it.
TEAMWRKX Construction teammates do NOT work in IDLH conditions.
For protection against gases and vapors, our teammates shall use:
o An atmosphere-supplying respirator
