Preventing or Controlling Risks
The Company will put control measures in place to eliminate risks from the failure of a surface and subsurface
safety systems. Where it is not possible to identify the risk completely The Company will take measures to have
a secondary control process in place to control any risks and reduce the severity (mitigate) and the effects of
any harmful event.
Control Measures
Where the risk cannot be eliminated, The Company requires control measures to be applied in the following
priority order:

reduce the quantity workers
avoid or minimize releases of dangerous substances
control releases from surface and subsurface safety systems failure at source
collect, contain, and remove any releases
avoid ignition sources
avoid adverse conditions (for example, exceeding the limits of temperature or control settings)
that could lead to danger
keep incompatible substances apart
coordinate with emergency response teams
These control measures should be consistent with the risk assessment and appropriate to the nature of the
activity or operation.
Mitigation
In addition to control measures The Company requires mitigation measures are in place. These measures should
be consistent with the risk assessment and appropriate to the nature of the activity or operation and include:

Reducing the number of workers exposed to the risk
Providing workplace that is explosion resistant
Providing explosion suppression or explosion relief equipment
Taking measures to control or minimize the spread of fires or explosions
Providing appropriate personal protective equipment
Preparing Emergency Plans and Procedures
Arrangements must be in place prior to the start of work to respond to accidents, incidents and emergencies
involving surface and subsurface safety systems. These plans and procedures should cover safety drills and
suitable communication and warning systems and should be in proportion to the risks. If an emergency occurs,
